Eagle Picture

Those who have seen a Bald Eagle picture at least once can distinguish the species from other eagles. There are no other large birds with back body and white head and tail in America. The body size of a female Bald Eagle reaches up to 36 inches; males measure about 32 inches. The wingspan of a female varies between 79 to 90 inches; males have a wingspan between 72 and 85 inches. In spite of very large wings, Bald Eagles weigh only between 10 and 14 pounds.

In numerous Bald Eagle picture galleries, you can see a wonderful courtship of these elegant birds. They whirl with their talons locked or perform a ritualized battle. Although Bald Eagles are no longer endangered and can be seen in every state except Hawaii, it’s very difficult to a see a courtship of the Bald Eagle, because for mating and nesting these birds choose remote areas and defend their territory from intruders.

There are several places where everyone can view these birds and take eagle picture. When watching eagles, it’s recommended to stay in the car or in a manned eagle observation deck. Eagles in remote areas are not afraid of cars, but people walking around during the nesting can cause the Bald Eagle leave the nest with eggs and even with eaglets. Eagle watching is not the best idea in spring and early summer when all eagle species nest and raise the young. When watching eagles in winter, try not to chase them off their roost, because flying takes away their energy and they have to hunt more often. Feeding wild eagles can make these birds unable to distinguish poisoned food, because they will trust humans and consume poisoned and wounded game.

Knowledge on the wild species helps preserve them and their habitats for future generations. Lack of knowledge on the Bald Eagle’s diet had nearly caused the species extinction in the 19th and 20th century. If humans knew more on these wonderful birds, they would never become endangered. There are many websites, magazines and books with eagle picture galleries describing the lifecycle and habits of the American Bald Eagle.
